Philip E. Curry Sr., 88, of Marblehead, MA, formerly of Liverpool, NY, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2015. Born and raised in Wellesley, MA, he was a 1944 graduate of Wellesley High School and attended Burdett College, Boston.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 14, 1944. After radioman and motor torpedo boat training (PT boat), he was assigned to a PT boat squadron based at Samar in the Philippine Islands where he saw combat action, mostly intercepting Japanese supply barges at night to avoid detection by larger Japanese warships. Philip E. Curry Sr., 88, of Marblehead, MA, formerly of Liverpool, NY, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2015. Born and raised in Wellesley, MA, he was a 1944 graduate of Wellesley High School and attended Burdett College, Boston.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 14, 1944. After radioman and motor torpedo boat training (PT boat), he was assigned to a PT boat squadron based at Samar in the Philippine Islands where he saw combat action, mostly intercepting Japanese supply barges at night to avoid detection by larger Japanese warships. He served on the same type boat and in the same battle area as LTJG John F. Kennedy. After the war, he arrived back in Seattle, WA on May 23, 1946, was back in Boston after a long troop train ride on July 3rd, and was Honorably Discharged July 5, 1946, nine months after WWII ended. He was recalled to active duty May 17, 1951 for the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged again on September 19, 1952 as a Radioman 3rd Class. His military awards include World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Honorable Service Button and Honorable Discharge Button.

Philip was employed by Quaker State Motor Oil Corp. for 29 years, retiring in August 1988.

On June 13, 1953, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Fallon in Dedham, MA. Betty passed away on May 28, 2010 in Syracuse, NY. Philip was also predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Rose McMahan Curry, his sister Mary O'Neill, his brother Thomas "Bud" Curry, and son-in-law Anthony Palmer.

Philip is survived by his three children Philip Jr. (Jane) Curry of Franktown, CO, Elizabeth "Lisa" Curry Palmer of Marblehead, MA, Ellyn Curry Losada of Glenfield, NY, two granddaughters, Samantha Curry and Nicole Losada, along with many nieces and nephews. Philip was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fan of Syracuse University Orange football and the Boston Red Sox.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool, NY. Burial with honors will follow in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A private memorial service will be held in Marblehead, MA.
